Acrylic and mixed media on box wood panel 30cm x 30cm Second in a Circle, Square, Triangle series, done in the spirit of the *Motherwell drawings of the 1970s. American artist Robert Motherwell was a great explorer of non-objective drawing, passionately believed that even a few simple shapes - ones that did not bear direct resemblence to particular things in the visible world could work together to create and convey a great deal of meaning. "As the series took shape, each painting created its own landscape and mood. An internal dialogue between the shapes begins to appear creating its own story and dimensions". Ladder to the Sun (named after the effect), immediately pulls the eye into various dimensions. Each painting panel was an arena for the geometric shapes, to play and interact off each other. The painting has an easy way in, leads the eye around with simple shapes that evoke a mood and narrative. Collage elements captured within the frames give texture and interest.
